Obsessed with Overland

The United Arab Emirates celebrated its 50th birthday earlier this month and it got us thinking about the origins of the country and how things have progressed over the last five decades. 

In a completely different topic of discussion, our deep affinity for all things mechanical keeps us on the hunt for inspiration from both local and international sources. 

Bringing both of these seemingly unrelated ideas together, we decided to host a celebration of overland and offroad vehicles. The UAE owes a great deal to these tough, reliable four-wheel drive vehicles and they still carry a sense of purpose. "Obsessed with Overland" was born! 

We got the word out and around 35 overland vehicles showed up, but what really amazed us was the sheer variety within that number! 

Land Rover Defenders, Nissan Patrols, Chevrolet Silverados, Jeeps and a number of other brands and models attended the event. However, the Toyota Land Cruiser was by far the most popular attendee, with no less than six generations of the venerable off-roader flying the flag for Toyota! 

Inside the Cafe, we decided to spice things up a bit with a classic Land Rover Series 1, kindly lent to us by Ollie Craig from Dubai Drives. It was the perfect accompaniment to a well-attended event that highlighted the overland culture that exists in this region. 

This may have been the first "Obsessed with Overland" but you can be sure that we'll be hosting similar events in the future!
