Cafe Rider is turning 10!
Time is a funny thing...
If you're in a hurry, time can't pass fast enough and yet if you need more of it, it seems to pass doubly quick. The hands on the clock don't move any faster or slower and yet, our perception of time is rarely as linear as scientists prove it to be.
It seems like it was just yesterday that Cafe Rider opened its doors in Al Quoz. That "yesterday" was in 2013, however, when the surrounding area was still purely industrial. Specialty coffee and a motorcycle workshop under the same roof - it was a novel concept. Our opening night was a success, with a thriving coffee bar, live music and three choppers in the middle of the Cafe.
That format remained for most of the first year. Organically, tables and chairs were added along with a few couches. A classic Mustang fastback took up residence in one corner, while a fledgling Roastery was built in another. The mezzanine was also put to use, maximizing serving space.
At one point, a food truck replaced the Mustang so that a selection of dishes could be added to the Cafe Rider menu. Soon after, a permanent kitchen was built out to serve a full-fledged food menu, which still exists today (with many updates and changes).
Change is inevitable and as we look back on the last decade, it's hard to believe how much has changed, both at the Cafe and within the community at large.
Neither time, nor change can be halted. For the last two years, we've been working quietly to make major changes and updates to the Cafe. It's been a slow process but as things fall into place, we're looking optimistically toward November of this year, which is when we celebrate our 10th anniversary.
Most importantly, we couldn't have gotten to this point without you, our loyal community. So, here's an open invite to all of you - join us for a grand celebration spanning a number of events over to-be-specified period in November!
10 years.
A blink of an eye and an eternity, it's all the same.
